Shielding his eyes with the palm of his hand, Kazuma could not help but feel even more out of place than he usually did. Everything seemed even brighter, louder, unreal and so completely different from the days when he used calligraphy pens to write and read by candlelight. Now, everything is all nanotechnology and artificial, and it left the shinki feeling a sense of being even more out of place.
Luckily for Kazuma, he wasn't the only one who did not quite fit in this new world. Yato's name and a little dancing Donation bottle that made Yato's avatar drew Kazuma's attention, and his growing frown subtlety hitched up into a proper smile.
"Morning Yato," Kazuma answered as he opened up the flashing message and flicked his fingers to throw up a neon pink screen, switching from text message to a video call.
Having been around a lot longer than Kazuma and lived through countless shifts in technology, Yato has found himself adapting a little bit better than his shinki. At least when it comes to certain technological advancements like video calls. The whole implant thing though? Still not something he's used to.
All the same, he manages a peace sign and a wink to greet Kazuma, grinning his usual cheesy smile that accompanies trouble. Who knows what he's got planned for the day, seeing as how the sun's only just risen.
"Yo! Kazuma! You had breakfast yet?" comes the overly chipper response from his god. For good or bad, he's never one to let things get him down for long.
"Nothing much, I managed to have a bowl of ramen last night so I should be good for a little bit unless you are offering," Kazuma teased as the bright lights of his screen bounced off his glasses, further hiding the growing dark circles underneath his eyes. "I do have to warn you, if you are offering pay- I might make you regret showing a bit of kindness."
Ah, Kazuma, Kazuma, Kazuma... How many times must you be reminded that shinki and god are linked? That exhaustion isn't lost on Yato, which could explain what comes next from him: "Meet me by the food court and we'll have breakfast, how about that? I've got a bit of extra cash from working hard lately, so I can afford to treat us to a little something, provided you don't go totally nuts." His tone remains teasing but at the same time there's also a hint of concern to it.
"You are far too kind," Kazuma softly answered, his head bowed in a teasing manner. "What is your gameplan for today?" Kazuma asked as he carefully slid his way into the throng of bodies, a slim minnow fighting against the flow of the current.
"Aren't I though?" Humble, huh? Although it is meant in jest for the most part, even as he places a hand on his hip to seemingly boast about his benevolence. "I thought a meal - naturally - then some kaiju wrangling, before going to hit the showers and relaxation time afterwards. Pretty simple day, really."
Having already been on his way to their usual meeting place for food, he secures them a nice booth, flopping down without ceremony to wait for his shinki to arrive.
Yato did not have to wait long before Kazuma filtered into place, his presence slipping into place like missing data finally finishing the code and allowing for a fully detailed image to form.
"Is there a certain type of Kaiju that you are thinking of hunting?" Kazuma asked as the neon-hot pink glare of Kazuma's surveillance screen flickered, changing from the restaurants menu to show detailed images of the local monsters that were available to choose from.
Once they're both comfortably seated, Yato takes a moment to bring up his own list of kaiju, skimming over them briefly while he decides on a target for the day.
"I'm thinking something small enough for us to handle together, so that we don't need to worry about pestering anyone else to come with us." Because as fun as it can be to work in a team with others, he still finds it easier to pair up with his shinki and fight alone, without having to consider others' safety.
"It has been a while since we worked together. I have been joining quite a few missions without you. I am quite honestly surprised by just how much those that are medic aligned are needed." Kazuma muttered as his screen fluttered off in a burst of digital sakura petals. "You look a bit tired as well, you said that you picked up a few missions as well last night? Are you sure that you are good to fight today?" Kazuma asked, half of his attention regulated to placing his order into the small drone.
"Cheating on me already, huh?? You're breaking my heart here!" Yato teases relentlessly with a grin, nudging his shinki's foot under the table. "Well, hey, wherever you have fighting, you're bound to have people getting hurt, so it makes sense." Flipping back to the menu, he selects a few items including a pancake breakfast and coffee before then refocusing on the list of targets. "Don't worry about me. I'm always fighting fit and raring to go." That's said despite him also sporting faint circles beneath his eyes. What a pair they are.
"I am sorry. I am such a horrible person, always sleeping around and breaking hearts. Without Viina around I simply can not be tamed." Kazuma monotonously answered, even when the green of his sparkled betraying the mirth that his tone did not betray.
"Hmn... Care to tell me that again when you aren't carrying matching bags under your eyes?" Kazuma lightly teased, choosing to ignore just how dark his own eyebags were.
That gets Yato to snort with amusement, a smile coming to his face. A playboy Kazuma is not. Not by a long shot. If one were to look up the word 'faithful' in the dictionary, his face would likely be beside the entry. Still, it's good to see his friend in such high spirits that he's able to joke around with him.
"I will when you do." There's no escaping his scrutiny either, Kazuma. "What a pair we make, huh?" He says lightly and not without some laughter. "But as long as we do our jobs well, then it's all good."
